AoS or apply from home country?

Hi everyone,

This afternoon I was shocked but very excited to find a NL in my mailbox. My case number is OC000002**

I am going to be traveling to the USA in a little under two months to participate in a 1 year exchange program on a J-1 visa with no 2 year home residency requirement. Would it be better for me to apply for adjustment of status once I get into the United States, or should I mail the paperwork to KCC and return to my home country for an interview once my visa number is available?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if these are dumb questions, I am very new to this process and never dreamed I would be selected.

Congrats! With your low case number I would expect an interview in October or November so AOS would be a good option for you. But have in mind to make sure that you'll get all papers on time from your home country (birth certificate, police report etc).

Wonderful! Thank you for your input Tazmania. I'd like to avoid having to pay for return flights to my home country so I'm glad that AoS looks like an option for me.
