I am desperately waiting for my AOS interview call, from Newark,NJ... I've to go out of Country in MAY. and just waiting and waiting and waiting.... i had my EAD on 21st-FEB-03.and my AOS Reciept date is 26th-May-03.do they sticktly follow this timelines ?? How long does this take Normally??? how many days prior you get the letter before actual interview??? Once i get my letter atleast i can book my tickets...

Thanks

I got the letter approx 3-4 weeks before the actual date of the interview. That gave me enough time to get my medical done.

They did not follow the timeline in my case. They were well ahead of the dates. In fact their letter said I would have my AOS interview in May and I got my card in April.

Cheers!! for Newark NJ.

Question

AmIintrouble

I just received a notice for AOS interview. They are asking me (the alien) to provide the original and a translated and notarized copy of my birth certificate. I did send it to them with the original application. Do you think they lost it? or should I show up there and they will have it? (it looks like the letter they sent me is a generic letter that is why i thought that they might actually have everything they need).

Also, I am not sure whether you know the answer to this, but My wife (USC) filed the affadavit of support based on her income. She is now thinkin of going back to school. I am on H1B here and making more than enough to cover both of us... Should she wait to quit her job AFTER our interview, or it ok to quit now and let the INS officer know at the time of the interview....

THANKS

econman,

You have to take the original with you, since they do ask you to bring all original documents. I would play it safe and take another translated notorized copy. They might not even ask for it. But if they do and you don't have one, it may not be a nice siutation to be in.

It's true that they sent you a generic letter, but that could be because they are used to sending out such letters.

In my case, I had sent them a copy of the b.c., an original translated notorized copy and a letter from the translator saying the translation is correct and he is well versed in both the languages.

if you have lived with your spouse for more than 6 months, your spouse can use your income by filling in supplement A (864A)

I am not 100% sure on this you might want to read the form again and check with someone else.

All the best for your AOS interview. Good Luck.

I sent my original application on Nov 4th of 2002. I received a receipt 5 days later. I was fingerprinted on March 13th. I received a notice for AOs interview 2 weeks ago to appear the end of May. I sent my stuff to the Newark INS office. But it got forwarded to the Cherry Hill office where I will have my interview. I assuming that the Cherry Hill handles apps from my county.

Do you think I need my attorney to be present? I have one and he said he would go. But I don't want the interviewer to think that the presence of a lawyer might mean that our marriage is not for real. What do you think?

I'm also waiting for my interview notice (from SF BCIS), I hired a lawyer to help with my paperwork and also because my case was a little bit complicated though my USC wife is sponsoring me (long story), I asked my lawyer if it would be advisable to take a lawyer with me during the interview and I was told that I don't need to waste money since the marriage is legit and we are going to go through a prep interview to make sure I get all my questions answered and how to answer during the actual interview.

APPROVED TODAY

Here is my timetable

NOV 5th: sent AOS package to NEWARK
Based on Marriage to USC (switch from H1).

March 13: Fingerprinting

May 29: Interview: Very Nice Officer, the USUAL questions,.... (took 10 minutes).

Walked out with I=551 stamp in my passport.

I just have to say that reading too much the groups can drive you nuts. At the end of the day, and on average, the INS is very reasonable.

Good LUCK to all.

I have one small question to you all.I am filing for AOS on 10th June. However I am planning to do my medical exam sometime later.Do I need to mail the exam to my local INS suboffice or is it okay if I just take it with me when I go for the interview?I heard that the xam is valid only for a year;so when should I do the exam?
Thanks
