Hi all, im a US Citizen, today was my wife's AOS (to green card) interview. The whole process was about 20 minutes, didn't ask us any tricky questions, just showed the interviewer some pictures. He didn't want to see the other albums, or other evidence since it was already in his file.

The questions he asked us:

1) DOB
2) SS#
3) Address (We live apart, so we gave 2 different ones)
4) How did we meet
5) Date of out engagement, wedding.

It was pretty much a conversation, he didn't ask any major questions.

Here is the kicker. He told us that everything seems fine on his side, but some "checks" still have not been completed on the other side so as soon as they are completed they will let us know of the outcome. Since it was under 3 months from the time of application to the interview they still need more time. And if they need anything additional he will let us know.

My wife and I are freaking out, is this a bad sign????

Maybe her background check is still pending and he needs to get a clearance before approving your case. There is no need to worry about anything here, it seems routine. Just take your wife out on a night in town, nice dinner, walk in the park and dessert on the balcony at home, and hug her all night.:)

I am certain you will be approved, no need to stress over it. If your wife has flunked the interview, then the officer told you he need to talk to his supervisor, then it might have been a bad sign that he suspect you are faking. Yes, if it is less than 3 months, it is possible FBI name check is pending or he might just want to review the evidence against and make a decision. You might be a novice on these issues, but couple of years ago, USCIS decided to no longer interview people if their background check is pending, maybe they have relax this standard. Which state was your wife's interview? Enjoy life and your wife, those are only certainities in life...:D

Haha, thanks Al, one thing that keeps bother me is that fact that the IO did not ask us for any original documents except passport. I has the copy of our wedding certificate in the file but never asked for the original one, etc. Is that normal?

In fact many of IOs have to talk to supervisor before making a decision. That certainly wouldn't be a bad sign. Lol!

As for everything else some IOs are really easy going and don't ask much. Very possibly you were lucky to get one like that. Also on my interview they only asked about passport(s) and I-94, no other docs (I was in different category, but anyway). So I'd just calm down and wait for at least a month without any worry. Most probably he will run it through supervisor before the formal approval.

Greenhouse,

You are already an environmentalist, so greening furtherabout this greencard is excessive...:) If you and wife dressed nicely, matching colors and were relaxed, it occurs to some of these IO that you are legitimate, so no need to create unnecessary hardships over the adjustment. So, there is nothing normal about USCIS officials, so just be glad you were not grilled as to why your wife is too darn pretty...:D As I said, just wait for the approval notice in the mail in the next couple of days. You had all evidence which he could ask for, but he wanted to have a short day, so he went for the easy process..:p

good luck,
Just go about your life as everything is normal, assure your wife that life is cool, having you is enough already and a greencard would be "gooder"

WOOHOO! I just checked the status online today and it says "Current Status: Card production ordered."

When can I expect the green card in mail?

Did IO ask why you live apart? I am wondering how to deal with this problem

He hardly touched on that, we actually had to point that out. Just said that my wife got her medical residency that's why she moved, and I couldn't because of work. We had all our phone bills showing how much we talk, copies of airline tickets showing how much we see each other and pictures. They just want to make sure that the marriage is real. Nowhere does it say that for a marriage to be real a couple has to live together.
