Some suggestions from me
I think IV should have a strategy of both long term and short term goals. I believe the short term goals are the immediate and burning needs of the immigrants as the long term will be basic strategies like educating the legislatures and building rapport with them, bringing transparency across the agencies, pressing them to provide necessary details, etc.
In order to have them in this direction, the core team needs to focus on the following:
1. News and media information team - There should be a separate wing to work under the core team to spread the message to various news agencies about the plight of Employment based issues.
2. Membership drive/funds team - This team should be in a position to drive the membership and get the necessary contribution / funds needed to support various initiatives.
3. Strategy team - This team should be in touch with various attorneys / Para legal and various members regarding various immigration issues at the grass root level and to bring those the attention.
4. Liaison team - Based on input from various teams from time to time, this team should be able to take the issues to QGA and other legislators and need to concentrate on trying to resolve them.
5. Retaining membership team - I just do not think the goal of IV ends only at fighting retrogression. This team needs to look for various things beyond GC including issues related to Citizenship as well and need to keep the momentum going by uniting the past, present and future members. I found often that when people get GC, they tend to get into their life without contributing much to the people coming on board. This team can focus on many such efforts to keep the community connected.
6. Younger immigrant’s issues – I found the most affected are the younger generations who are going through this process along with their parents are the most sufferers. This process not only put the parent’s progress on hold, but also put their younger generations as well along with them. By connecting this kids, they will as well understand the plight of their parents and also will able to understand that they are not alone in this queue, whose life is being put on hold. Can address issues like ageing out for young adults, problem in seeking admissions to higher education as their in limbo state, etc. If they happened to be future citizens, they can then know the issues well and could able to bring up some good system. [I believe in investing in the future!]
7. Statistical team – This team has to look for various avenues to work with agencies like UCSIS, FBI, etc and to bring as much transparency as possible to the process. Statistics are vital and important for not only for us, but also for those who are working against us! In order to bring the true picture, it is really important to get those facts and figures and this will help IV in a long way.
I do not know whether all the above are relevant or I missed something. I am just thinking out loud here
