anyone got 221g for parents visitor visa?

my in-laws had an interview yday in Mumbai consulate and they had selected an interpreter prior to interview but when the interview started the officer started asking questions in english and my father in law (since he can speak english very well) asnwered the questions. Officer only asked them where he worked before he retired, what does his son do in US and is he married. The she asked him who is going to support them and about the finance. Father in law presented I 134 , last 2 yrs W2, bank statements that we had sent from here. Then they were told that their visa has not been rejected and they will be contacted in 3 weeks. They were given a letter and their passports back and they were asked to leave. THATS IT !

When they came out they saw the letter which says that under section 221g their application needs additional documentation and once the documentation has been obtained then they can go any working day at 10:30am at the consulate office and reapply.
There is a list below this heading in that letter and nothing is checked.

1. Pls provide financial documentation
2. pls provide notarized passport/visa copies of ..........
3. your application requires additional clearance and we will contact you in 3 weeks.
4. provide letter of employment , bank statement , W2 etc etc

and list goes on and on

Now my in-laws dont know what to do and they dont know what is needed (if at all they need to provide any additional paperwork).

Has anyone experienced this ??

well if you could give a complete list of documents that you sent and they carried from their side we may be able to give you insights.
from the list of docs it looks like you missed certain things and after the in laws have the docs they can go again
 
well we provided everything that was suggested by various websites etc etc.. also they carried everything.. plus the list of docs mentions a lot of things and its hard to know which is applicable and which is not. The list also includes things like we will contact you in 3 weeks .. now thats not the missing document right ?

thats the reason my in laws are upset as they dont know what to do. They were specifically told that their visa has not been rejected but they will contact them in 3 weeks. I also saw this on the embassy site (chennai, delhi)

If you have been requested to wait until the Embassy contacts you, please do
not make an appointment. Your case requires further administrative
processing and the Embassy will contact you once this has been completed.


so i wanted to know if this is a new thing and if anyone else has experienced this and what they do in this time ?

Thanks for replying back to my mesg. Name check can be possible but none of our names seem to be a problem. Their names are Manohar and Jayashree and sons name is mohan.

what else can be the thing ? also do u know anyone else who went thru the same and how long did it take for them to get back ?
 
It looks like they have been given a generic list and they dont really need to provide any more info. They will have to wait for 3 weeks, and if they do not hear anything by then, they should call the consulate for update. I have not heard this happening in visitor visa casea but in other cases, who knows what was triggred, so try not to worry too much ( i know its not easy). take heart and it will be ok.
