My friend works for a U.S oil company in Africa, he came to Texas with his pregnant wife for a six months course at the oil company's headquaters in houston,TX.
His wife stayed with a family friend who gave her a bad advice.She had her baby at a public hospital in Houston but never requested the bill from the hospital at the same time.She says she expected the hospital to mail her the bill at home address in houston but never received anything untill they left and went back to Nigeria.well, few weeks ago she went to the embassy to renew her expired u.s visa, she was refused on the grounds that she was a public charge the last time she went to the u.s , she was baffled how they knew she had a baby here in the first place talk less about how they knew she did not pay for it.(Medicaid covered it they told her)
Her husband is rich ,he was devasted and has offered to refund medicaid in Texas whatever they paid to cover the childbirth.
Does he need a lawyer to do this ?
The lady says that she did not mean to abscond without paying, she said that they made her leave the hospital early due to lack of insurance and said they would mail her the bill later.
She never received it untill she left.
