Anybody had first name and last name interchanged in passport? If so how did you solve it with USCIS.

I have in my passport interchanged and did not face any problem until 485. Now I got to solve it. This is a common problem with indians, please share your experiences.

I have the similar situation. I have a - in my surname and first and last are under the "Given names". Some stupid person in India
I guess I may face the same issue once retro is over (if ever)
What kind of an RFE did you get?
How do you plan to solve it? Please update here ...thx

Hi NathanSS,
I have the same problem. Mine is a bit more tricky. I should hear something in the next 2-3 weeks. I will share it as part of this thread.

Here is my situation:

1. About 10 years back India used to have a single line for name and there was absolutely no confusion. Also, US Visa was always issued as per what you filled in the Non-immigrant form and hence things were fine. This held good for the 1st and 2nd booklets of my passport.
2. About 5 years back, India introduced 2 lines - Given Name and Surnname. Also, the passport authorities discouraged me from correcting their mistake when I pointed out that they swapped it. They said, it is all fine as long as there is no other change (other than swapped first and last name).
3. US visas were still fine as they sticked to what you put on the application dis-regarding the passport name.
4. However, in last 3-4 years, US consulate sticks to the exact Given and First name as in Passport.
5. I had the first real problem about 3 years back when I tried to get a license after moving to a new state in US.
6. The DMV refused to give DL as I always had for almost 6 years in US. They insisted the name has to match exactly as in Passport and US Visa.

Most importantly, which is probably what you are interested in:

- I specifically pointed out this anomaly to my attorney while starting my GC process. It is a reasonably reputed firm and he indicated: THE USCIS IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WITH INDIANS AND TEND TO NOT MAKE AN ISSUE AS LONG AS ALL THE WORDS AND CHARACTERS ARE THERE. THEY IGNORE THE SEQUENCE.

This is yet to be validated though. He indicated that problems will come only if you shorten / change / spell differently.

Let us see...
