Anybody filed for EAD renewal?

It is stated that an applicant has to attach previous employment authorization document.
Do I have to attach a photocopy or a card itself?

If I have to attach the card, does it mean that if I'll be laid off before approval of the renewal (Lord, please save me from that) I will no be able to work for EAD since I just don't have the document on hands...???

Forgot to mention that I am gonna file to CSC directly for me and wife 100 days prior to expiration...

Where did it state?

I found on page 5 Form I-765 Instruction "a copy of your last EAD (front and back)"

At the top of I-765 form itself, below "do-not-write" block there is a line: "I am applying for:", and then see the "renewal" entry.
