My employer sponsored my GC and I got my GC almost 1 and half years ago.

Q. If I loose my job and become unemployed, does it effect my permanant resident status?

Q. Do one has to work for the employer after getting GC and how long? does >1 year qualify?

Normally, I would say working for one year or more with the same employer after getting your GC is PROBABLY enough indication of permanency

This comes from the thread " Rajiv's opinion about changing job after GC ".

My attorney said that 6months is enough. So you should be fine.

thanks

I have another question.

People on visas must have job to be legal here. Lets say if I become jobless like lay off or fired, than in that case would it effect my legal status?

No, after you get the greencard it does not matter whether you work or not.
