Any benefits of applying for Passport at the oath ceremony

My husband will take oath tomorrow at San Francisco. At that location they also accept Passport applications immediately after the oath. Just curious to know if there is any special advantage (like faster processing, less paperwork etc.) of applying there or it's equivalent to applying in a Post Office?

There is no advantage in terms of faster processing, less paperwork etc. when applying for a passport at the ceremony. There are many disadvantages though -you will have to part with your original certificate of naturalization immediately after the ceremony without giving you a chance to make a copy for your records and the lines at the ceremony for passport application can get quite long.

The best thing to do is to get back home after the ceremony, take time to sign the certificate, make a copy or scan it, then go to the nearest US post office and apply for a passport.

like nkm oct 23 stated best to make copies first and then post office, i did mine at the post office, expedited, applied the 20th August, issued 26th, received priority mail 29th, so its fast enough.

Thanks for the quick response. I was thinking in the similar lines, wanted a 2nd opinion.

Thanks

I am sorry I didn't update the signature. My oath was done on 8/19/09. Tomorrow is my husband's. I didn't apply for a passport at the oath ceremony as it was overly crowded. But, applied in the post office later on.
