Any Asylee here & Applying for GC via Employment (I-485)??

Hope someone can help me. I am somewhat confused.

Ok, here's my short bio. I was approved for asylum in June 2002, and am now eligible (after one year) to apply for my GC. I can apply through my Asylee status but that would take a very long time (10 years, at least), so I am thinking instead to apply for my GC through Employment. I am not unwilling to spend $5000 more that I would have to if I could get my GC in 3 to 5 years vs. much longer through the Asylee adjustment of status.

Is there an Asylee here, who has had a similar experience? Please share your experience with me.

One thing I am not very clear of is whether an Asylee can apply for GC via "BOTH" his Asylee-status and via Employment? Anyone got any information on this? Please advise.

Thanks in advance, and anyone is welcome to respond if you have any pertinent information.

The I-485 for asylee does not tske than long

I don't think the I-485 for asylee takes that long. I know many friends who received their GC through Political Asylum. The I-485 took less than 2 yrs. I think you are better off asjusting through the Asylum.

The other adventage of Asylum is you will qualify for the US citizenship much earlier. Actualy the 5 years of mandatory GC period before appliing for US citizenship starts at the date of approval of your Asylum case.

Think twice before changing your course.

Dates of your friends' applications?

Thanks for the prompt response, pulo. That sure lifted up my spirits some.

Could you please provide a little bit more detail about your friends' GC application through Asylum process? I am amazed that it is only taking about 2 years for them to get it!! I have heard so many horror stories about how long it will take, and many have quoted 10 years, and that sure has discouraged me a lot.

If you could provide some more details about your friends' applications, dates and places, for instance, that sure will be appreciated.

Have a great Memorial Day!:)

I have not yet contacted my friend

Sorry for not being able to reply earlier due to an auto accident that almost cost me and my family our lives.

I will try to get you the info as soon as I can

pulo.

Sorry about the accident

Sorry to hear about your accident, pulo. I am just thankful that you and your family are not seriously injured as a result of that. From what you wrote, it sounded like a serious accident. I hope and pray that you and your family are doing okay.

Thanks for your response though, and take care.
