Hello
I am sponsoring my parents. Should I submit a common I-134 for both parents, or 1 each. Please respond.
Thanks

One should be enough. It has space for spouse/dependents where you can add father's or mother's name.

only one I-134 is required

Basically what is required is that the visitors do not become public charge and the sponsor has enough money to support the visitors' stay in the US. The form clearly says:
That this affidavit is made by me for the purpose of assuring the United States Government that the person(s) named in item 3 will not become a public charge in the United States.
Person(s) refers to all accompanying family members and therefore included both your parents. I had sent only 1 form for my parents-in-law.

Each applicant 1 form

While it is individual's choice to send one form and try or send one form for each traveller it is required that each applicant be provided with one I-134.

Following is some info. about the form:

Form I-134 - Affidavit of Support

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Form I-134 Summary

Purpose To file a promise with the Bureau to support an alien entering the United States and that the alien will not become a public charge. A separate affidavit must be filed by the sponsor for each person.
Size 2 Pages + Instructions

Where to File If the sponsor is in the United States, the affidavit may be sworn to or affirmed before an immigration officer (see any BCIS District or sub-office) or before a notary public or other official authorized to administer oaths for general purposes. If the sponsor is outside the United States, the affidavit must be sworn to or affirmed before a U.S. consular or immigration officer.
Filing Fee None

I have sent these forms to my parents on two occassions. Each time they had one form each.

What the affidavit of support says is that I will support Mr X and Mrs. Y during their stay in the US. You can say it in one or two affidavits, choice is yours. I have used 1 affidavit for both parents successfully at Chennai consulate .

The Department of State indicates that each applicant should have one I-134.

The point is when there is an option what do we follow?
Bearing in mind it only costs few more dollars for the notorization.

Do we go by the way it is suggested in the DoS website OR
take somebody's success as a measure.

I am not doubting the success the member had. But is it correct
in recommending it as a standard?

That is my question!

I-134 has conflicting information in it. In the form it says:

That this affidavit is made by me for the purpose of assuring the United States Government that the person(s) named in item 3 will not become a public charge in the United States.
That I am willing and able to receive, maintain and support the person(s) named in item 3. That I am ready and willing to
deposit a bond, if necessary, to guarantee that such person(s) will not become a public charge during his or her stay in the
United States, or to guarantee that the above named person(s) will maintain his or her nonimmigrant status, if admitted
temporarily and will depart prior to the expiration of his or her authorized stay in the United States.
That I understand this affidavit will be binding upon me for a period of three (3) years after entry of the person(s) named
in item 3 and that the information and documentation provided by me may be made available to the Secretary of Health
and Human Services and the Secretary of Agriculture, who may make it available to a public assistance agency.

However, the instructions say that a separate form is required for each person. Someone may take a more conservative view and submit 2 applications. I got lucky I guess.
