Hi guys, I've used this forums since 2002, when I came to US.
Long story short, I'm a PR based on political asylum since 2006. I have traveled to europe with travel document once before, and everything was ok.
Here is the real question, since my russian travel document expired long ago, in 2005, and I cant get a refugee travel passport again, I got a regular travel passport. I was wandering if I can travel with that passport(i-131) back to Russia to visit family, and would that be a problem when I'm due to get my citizenship? My GC category AS6. Is it normal to travel to the country where you fled from after you get GC?
Thanks a bunch again, I know If I dig this formus deeper I'll find an answer, but was hoping for some quick answeres. Thanks.

No!!! You risk losing your GC by doing that, unless the US Govt is satisfied that the conditions in your country have materially changed since you got your GC. USSR 1988 yes, but not Russia 2002.

And regardless of what the US Govt. thinks, why on earth would you think it is OK to go back, if a few years ago it was so terrible that you had to flee and convince the US to grant asylum?

hi jackolantern

I got aslyum in 2000, PR in 2005, I have renewed NP in 2008. I wont go to COP. Can I get in trouble?
Thanks

Well I'm from Chechnya, and I have my parents there, whom I hanen't seen for 6 years. Thats why I thought I could go see them for a week or two.

my friend, from what I have learned in this forum, it is simply bad to go back to COP. Unless you dont want citizenship and simply want to keep your green card forever.

It still looks like you are lying if you go back. Because going back is saying that you don't expect to be persecuted or prosecuted, which contradicts what you said to get asylum in the first place.

If you want to see them and keep your green card, meet them in a third country.

Even keeping the green card could be a problem, if they ever find out about a trip to the COP, like at the port of entry.
