My brother is an anesthesiologist in INdia (age 32). He is married with a son. He would like to come to the US to practice. What is the best mode for doing this?

He is willing to come here stay with us and take the USMLE exams. However, what are his chances of getting visa to come here? What visa should he apply for (student, work, etc.)

If he gets a visa, come over and passes the exams, what are his chances of getting a residecny program that sponsors H1.

Also, can I sponsor for his greencard if I am a citizen? IF so, how long will it take?

He can take the step1 and part of step2 in india. Only step 2cs and step3 have to be taken in the US.

Typically people come on a B1/B2 visitors visa for the exams. If he takes some preparatory courses ($$$) with companies like Kaplan, he can get a F1 visa which gives more time to interview etc.

For the residency, he would want to get an H1b (skilled worker) visa. This is not easy to get, but much more desireable than the J1 (exchange visitor) visa.

Anaesthesia used to be a only moderately competitive specialty and it was quite realistic for a foreign medical graduate to find a position. However, yesterday the results for the 'residency match' was released. And it turns out that anaesthesia has gotten one of the more competitive specialties again, the great majority of positions got filled. But with prior experience and good results in the USMLE, he should be able to get a position. Other specialties such as internal medicine or family practice are very achievable for FMG's.

From india, probably 14-15 years. However, if you file for him, he can run into troube obtaining a B1/B2 or J1 visa (these visas don't allow 'immigration intent'). It would probably be faster to get his GC through a job after residency, this would take 5-7 years from now.
