It took exactly 30 months

Little history:

1) I tried everything as was recommended here: Senators, Congressments, FBI RMD Bosses, Ombudsman. USCIS TSC director...all useless in fact resulted in misleading answers.


2) Finally my employer was able to find someone in FBI who agreed to expedite it. The whole process involving took < 2 months.

3) Until 2 months ago my case was just collecting dust somewhere in some box.

4) I did have low-level security clearance in xSU and was involved in some other things. None of this had any relationship to namecheck delay. The delay was related to:

a) file just collecting dust untouched for >2 years
b) waiting for a piece of paper from the FBI field office and clearing the namecheck (<2 months).

by the way, FOIA is useless. If anyone thinks of it is an "ammunition to take to the senators/congressmen", you will be very disappointed!

No thanks: 2 Congressmen, 1 Senator, 1 Ombudsman, 1 TSC Director, 2 FBI NNCP Chiefs

Your story is kind of scary. If you didn't get the help from an insider, are they going to let the file sit there forever?

I do not think it is anything like that. They agreed to expedite because it was taking so long and impeding government projects. It is just slightly unusual way to expedite.

What seems to be true though is that they are REALLY REALLY backglogged and this is the only reason NCs are taking that long (not because it actually takes long to do one).
