APPLICATIONS FOR IMMIGRATION BENEFITS

Applications and petitions for immigration benefits in October 2003 decreased 18 percent compared to the number received in October 2002. October approvals were down 1 percent, while denials decreased by 7 percent when compared to October 2002.

The 18 percent drop in October receipts is partially due to the end of TPS for El Salvadorans and a concomitant drop in receipts of I-765 employment applications.


Total immigration application pending cases reached 5,459,911, a 22 percent increase when compared to October 2002.


Major volumes in October 2003 receipts include: 144,418 I-765 employment authorizations; 67,852 I-130 relative petitions; 53,088 I-485 permanent resident adjustments; and 47,408 I-90 Green Card renewals/ replacements.


Major volumes of pending cases at the end of October 2003 include: 1,910,731 I-130 relative petitions; 1,237,790 I-485 permanent resident adjustments; 737,699 I-90 Green Card renewals/replacements; and 403,491 I-765 employment authorizations.
