An Open Letter to IV guys --- You are hurting us …
I welcome you for an online debate about this … a healthy one … not an abusive response which IV guys having been doing in the past.
[As someone said .. IV guys are nice only when asking for money..]

IV is making lot of noise which is not necessary at this point... Things have not yet bottomed out... Lawmakers are for us and doing every thing within there possible reach to get out of this hoop. I know one local senator... who said that he has an analyst who does in-depth study of the immigration issues … He is sort of guru and has access to USCIS and the other congressmen and as well to most of the employer in area who hire foreign workers. The senator says he understands thing much better than possibly what I could say.

But as IV is making all this big noise … many anti-immigrant communities are getting starting noticing us.

Yes making this noise is not good for us... we are putting ourselves in spotlight.
We are making ourselves a target of anti - immigration groups... the group had ignored legal guys pretty much ... and were more focused on illegal immigrants.
Now because of all the noise that IV guys are making the desperation more than necessary ... and some anti-immigrant groups are already started taking some target practice at us. And we might be made fun off in coming days...

Don't be surprised ... to hear this from UR boss some day...
YOU: Hey Dave... I need a day off this Friday...
BOSS: well that’s ok ... are U planning to march with those stupid IV guys?

US has invited us to join there family ... we enjoy the invitation and we know the guys are working towards make us ... one of the larger family. Let them come up with something for us... as they need us...Forcing ourselves into the family might bring repercussion and eventually lead to segregation and discrimination.

So to all IV guys... please do not hurt others to make Ur case... If you want to do it ... do it ... but do not make all this noise around.

USA is a great melting pot... so let’s melt into it without making all this hulla-gulla.

Please do help us by not attracting any hatred towards us… we need to lead a trouble free life.

bhola tu kitna bhola hai re!!!! You think it is so simple, or you're try to say it is so simple. The government is working for you. DOL is working for you . Cool!!! than what are you doing here ? why did you have to come to immigration portal ?? If lawmakers were doing the best for us, people wouldn't be waiting for their labor cert. for 5 years now. Nobody stops you from hiding in the rat hole. Go baby go and melt in the great cheeze.....

Rotfl..

This is a good one !!
This guy wants to have a healthy discussion and started it by calling the other guys stupid ???

Why would you(the smart one ??) even bother engaging with stupid people then ??

There are some really good jokes today.. one guy thinks people did a street protest from reading the article that mentions K Street.

LOL !!!!!!

Chill out guys !!

ebhola, you thought IV guys arranged a march on 'K' street. haaaahaa :D :D :p I can't believe it. You are not bhola your are superman you have super natural powers to make people fall from the chair. This is what happend

Why_me: hahahaa... falls off from the chair
Dave : Did you read something from ebhola ?
Why_me : yes, how did you know ?
Dave : I fell from my couch yesterday after reading his posting
Dave : Can you arrange his picture I wanted to see this guy
Why_me: I'll write to immigration portal if they could help

IV and others ..

eBhola,

I follow the activities of IV and feel that their goals are noble. My only problem is that I am not fully sold on whether they will avhieve any success. In the true big picture, legal immigrants are at the bottom of this countries priorities and I am not sure if an organization like IV can chage that. However there effort is appreciated. The other thing that bothers me a little about IV is that fact that there forums are filled with "Sefl praise" rather than actual useful information. I tend to read to many self promotion articles that go on and on about IV being featured here or IV being mentioned on some show. The buzz is good but a lot of people get turned off by such blatant self promotion. All this only lends more credit to the idea that IV is more concerned about getting its name out there and collecting money. There needs to be less publicity and more action in IV. That is my opinion.

As for your other comments ebhola, I do agree with some of the other forum members that have called you a little naive to think that the lawmakers and this govt is working for you. That is not true at all my friend. NO ONE is looking out for your interests. If you sit back and hope for these govt agencies and law makers to magically solve all your problems, then you are in for a rude shock. The only time they work for you is if they have something to gain from it. At this point in time there is nothing to gain from legal immigrants. Now if there was a law in place that prevented the govt from collecting SS tax and Medicare tax from immigrants then you would see all law makers bend over backwards to get us the GC. I think its best we immigrants come to terms with reality here. I just don't understand why its so hard for us to accept the fact that we are indeed "second class citizens" here and stop "expecting" things to happen. I am not saying that we should think less of ourselves but we need to stop kidding ourselves about our true status here. We will have to work hard for things to happen and should be prepared for dissapointment. Nothing will be handed to us so lets get out of that mindset. This whole idea of the US being a huge friendly melting pot sounds really good on paper but it doesn't always turn out that way.

At this point the best thing is for us would be to look out for our own interests and do everything we can to make the most of what we have in terms of family, money, education etc etc ..

regards,

saras

Saras76,

I respectfully beg to differ from you re: IV achievements. We had a Senator introduce an amendment with 5 major requirements:

1. File I485 even with visa number retrogression
2. Keep the existing soft country cap for EB visas.
3. 3 year H1B extensions for people stuck in backlogs
4. 3 year EAD/AP extensions
5. Recapture of EB numbers from 2001 to 2004 to be restricted to EB 1-3 only as these categories were the source of unused numbers, not the new EB5 category.

Now it is not our fault if that legislation died and that amendment could not be taken up.

We are fighting hard to introduce similar legislation into the new Hagel-Martinez compromise.

If the only metric you are going to employ is that these measures haven't yet made it into law, then yes, IV has not been successful thus far.

Re: Self-praise and publicity for IV, think about it from IV's perspective. We have over 3000 members; 1000 odd have donated thus far and we have raised $100K or so. Pretty pathetic, isn't it, compared to the number of people who are stuck in retrogression and backlogs. If all we can do is keep banging away at Immigportal asking for money, we won't get far. For some reason people are not willing to donate money. $100 is not a lot of money when you consider the potential Return on Investment - it is 2 months basic cable, or 1 month's phone bill - yet people seem unwilling to spend it. A common theme I have heard is, they would spend the money if it were guaranteed that they would get a GC. Well, $100 is far too little to guarantee anyone's GC. So it is like an investment that may or may not work. If I were guaranteed a GC, I would spend high 4 figures to get it. The amount of unreal expectation for $100 surprises me. So we need to get the word out about IV, not just to publicize the problem of legal immigrants, but also to raise money for lobbying. Make no mistake - your cause could be the most just in the world but strategic counsel provide contacts so that you can make your voice heard.

To summarize, publicity helps us raise money, which we then use to further our cause. No more, no less, nothing else.

stucklabor,

I am not questioning the fact that IV has had some success. I am just skeptical of this whole process in general. I am not sure if immigration reform goals are achieveable by ANY pro-immigration organization under the current political climate. However there is no harm in trying and IV has to be commended for its efforts. Maybe IV can prove me wrong ...

As for publicity, I was just trying to point out that there may be a slightly better way of promoting IV because a lot of people seem to be getting the wrong idea. I guess its just human nature to question something that is being promoted so much. This in no way means that IV is only interested in money. Just be prepared for enough people to question your motives. This will happen with anything when a slightly large sum of money is involved.

eBhola , this is typical desi attitude, don't do anything and criticise those who are atleast doing something about it.For lot of people its 3 years + waiting for theier 485 approvals alone, how long do you want us to wait for your senators to streamline the system?Yours is a pipedream if you expect that govt is thinking about you.
What are you doing about the whole retrogression issue other than writing this post and criticising IV?If your solution is DO nothing ,then its unacceptable to us.Alteast IV is doing something about it, kudos to them!!

What are you afriad of???

It's true that anti-immigrant communities may have noticed us because of IV. But you have to consider at the same time many many other people noticed our situation too. H1B has always been the target for those anti-immigrant people for years, have they really made out any case yet? Current H1B situation is only caused by the economic situation when the high quota was expiring in 2003, not because of them.

The undisputable truth is that American need skilled works. They messed up their system and now it's their opportunity to fix it. IV is doing everything they can not to act as a crying baby, but to make a convincing case to convince more and more people the system need to be fixed.

If my employer were to ask me "are U planning to march with those stupid IV guys"...I'll definitely show him/her the finger....Not to be personal, but you don't deserve to be here if you don't even believe in yourself.

Lets gets some facts ...

1> Have you ever seen an IV memeber helping some-one in the Forum... At least I have never seen any one ... Members like Saras76 .. unitednations and many more have gained respect ... not by self-praising ... but by helping others..

At the most I have seen something like this ---

A GUY : I need some help with 485... ...
IV GUY : Join IV with Ur wallet ...

And then they go on to say ... helping the entire immigration community.

2> This immigration community is a big one... everyday thousands join the process ... and IV has not even a day worth of members.
So a small focus group ... how come says in public that they are respresenting the immigration community.

3> And my original point ... we are here to melt with the population.. not to force in.. This is a land of immigrants and immigration is ever since when the river turned red with the Indian blood. Latinos can do great many things .. since they are the future majority .. We do not want to live in desi gettos... but to assimilate into the society..

This is a free land ... and everyone has lots of freedom.. IV can do whatever it things fit for itself and its members.. But they do not represent the immigration community .. so should not say that it public.

Many might get harmed because of there statement ... and that may not be good.

I think IV is still helping

But I think the press coverage they've got is a good thing. Try to think if you were them, and you only have limited times to invest in getting more press coverage or answer a few questions, I would rather choose getting more press coverage.

I don't quite agree their way of growing members (Join us with your wallet stuff...) either. But more or less, I think everything they have achieved is much better than nothing. Think from another side, actively engaging changing the law is indeed more useful than trying the best to explain the current law since the current law sucks big time.

Ha ha

Ha ha .....

Yes indeed ... this looks strange though ..

First get some work done then press coverage follows. But here things seems to go the other way round.

No work work and all the coverage...

Welcome to Desi ways.

Humor so don't get

I have been thinking about a website that would be helpful for all aspiring legal immigrants. I don't know what my fate is, I am entering 7th year h1b extension, L/C certified, thats it.
Whats best for us all? What can we do to make our lives good? A website that gives actual facts about skilled imigration, what people can expect on h1b, what people are supposed to do on h1b, what people can have their spouses do on h4 visa, identify good consulting companies and join them on a agreed % salary and file for Green card, so that they don't worry about getting layed off or not getting promotions etc... Rather one can deveelop skills and have a variety of work experience and build resume.

This will definitely help us and our community better. Tell me how many EB1s are activately participating in these kind of activities? Almost nil, they wont care because it wont affect them. Once eb2 slides faster, eb2s will also not care much about immigration reforms.

It is a fact that there is no job security in the US. It is a fact that there is a divide between Americans and Immigrants. Immigrants - skilled or non skilled, legal or illegal all are treated the same, we are not Americans.

If organizations' that are formed to raise voice actually try to work out a way of getting reliefs while on h1b (like GC portability, h1b portability on extensions in extreme conditions etc....) it would be a great direction to go to.

good Idea .... sometimes most of the issues are discussed in the portal and I have seen sara and unitednations have given very valuable tips and help.

A websites which keeps all together might be good.

I am sure senior members who have gathered weath of information in this area will pour in a lot, to make this site a valuable one.

Excellent points ..

chanduv23,

Your ideas are excellent. I have always wanted a site dedicated to legal immigrants where people can share more than their immigration problems. It would be nice to have a site where we can gain information on how to make the most of our lives while we are here. A site that does not have any agenda apart from promoting a better life for legal immigrants while they wait on this stupid immigration process. A site where we can share ideas to advance our lives would be great but the sad truth is that in our daily lives and worries none of us really have the time to devote to this. I surely don't but I do take time to come to this forum and share my ideas and try to help other immigrants and get some help myself.

One thing you touched upon is for sure. Most people are interested in immigration reform and the plight of immigrants only till they are part of that community. I have known numerous people who have turned their backs on immigrants still waiting in line as soon as they got their GCs. This is typical human nature. Although I am not sure how I will behave once (if ever) I get my GC, I hope I do not become part of the thousands of immigrants that start looking down on the very immigrant community they came from.

If there is one thing I have learnt through this process its that there is a huge divide between immigrants and US citizens. There are all sorts of wrong notions about us and no one is interested in helping us in any way. We are on our own and it should be our duty to look after "our kind" no matter what country we might be from. If we stop caring for other immigrants once we cross over the difficult bridge of immigration it will only add to our plight.

saras

Market place for Ideas

Guys and Gals,

There is what I call a MARKETPLACE FOR IDEAS.

IV has come up with some idea to address retrogression. And they are following that. Good or bad, it is their idea and they are doing what they think is best to achieve their objectives.

I am sure there are competiting ideas as well.

Why don't we have some competition to IV and get these other ideas to end retrogression?

Just as Coke and Pepsi, P&G and Unilever, PWC and Accenture, Infosys and Wipro, etc. COMPETE, the other "entity" and IV can compete.

Remember, Competition benefits consumers. I am sure we all benefit when instead of 4 organisations, there are 400 wanting to end retrogression.

If you have or can build a "better mousetrap", I am all ears.

Regards
GCStrat :)

thats funny gcstrat :) Like Murthy and Khanna and etc.... compete on bringing the latest insiders of what is happening in the immigration world, we also compete in raising our voices :)

Well, I am not against any organization or efforts. IV has hired commercial lawyers and experts and have top notch consultants and they follow a process which they believe is the best. They could well be a key to a successful and good system.

In common, skilled immigration is a gamble here. Companies are agents that help develop the country by bringing in skilled immigrants and and make them go through a screening process and finally present the skilled immigrant to the country. Microsoft, TCS XYZ all are same. They are all agents. Many companies do not have access to resources from outside the US and they depend on consulting companies or go to grad schools where they can find skilled students. Some agents might be good, some might be bad etc... The immigration department works just like an agency.

Survival tips etc can be added to make lives better
