An alien cannot have two valid travel documents at one time.

According to 8CFR, there is a statement that an alien cannot have two valid travel documents at one time. Unless there is a regulation change, the center will need to continue to have the unexpired travel document returned before issuing a new document. Note: on March 31, the center asked HQ to change the regulation so that the center could forward-date the validity of the new travel document to the day after the current one expires.

well, there were two times i was holding an old RTD and a brand new one, the first time when i crossed the US-CANADA border, the officer took my old one away, but the second time the officer simply gave me back my old one, so i had two valid RTD at that time
