November 21, 2006 - Let Illegal Immigrants Become Citizens, U.S. Voters Tell Quinnipiac University National Poll; But Do More To Tighten The Borders, Voters Say

By a 69 - 27 percent margin, American voters say illegal immigrants should be allowed into a guest worker program with the ability to work toward citizenship over a period of several years, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released today.

Republicans support the guest worker to citizenship path 66 - 31 percent, while Democrats back it 73 - 23 percent and independent voters back it 71 - 24 percent, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds.

Building a 700-mile fence on the U.S.-Mexican border is "enough for now," 24 percent of voters say, but 71 percent say, "additional measures are needed from Congress to deal with illegal immigrants entering the country."

By a narrow 48 - 44 percent margin, American voters think President George W. Bush and Democrats in Congress will be able to work together on the immigration issue.

"Could the immigration issue provide that bi-partisanship that both parties started talking up after the election? Two thirds of Americans favor a guest-worker program with a path to citizenship, which President Bush and a lot of Democrats were for before the issue got caught up in all the campaign-season rhetoric," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "Maybe a lot of Americans think back to the stories of their own immigrant families."

"But Americans also want to close the borders to keep out illegal immigrants in the future," Carroll added. "There are big margins for a tougher border policy among all parties and among men and women."

American voters support 65 - 32 percent laws in their own community to fine businesses which hire illegal immigrants.

Republicans support fines for businesses 72 - 25 percent, with Democrats at 58 - 38 percent and independent voters at 65 - 31 percent.

"Americans think more needs to be done to deal with illegal immigration, and they want it done in their own neighborhoods as well. By a 2 - 1 margin, they want businesses in their home towns to be fined if they knowingly employ illegal immigrants," Carroll said.

From November 13 - 19, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,623 registered voters nationwide. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 2.4 percentage points.

this poll just confirms dozens of others from red and blue states from the last few years. people demand enforcement. but most are open to the idea of amnesty. there is no reason you can't add amnesty to the sensenbrenner bill. and that is what the public wants.

You clearly do not know what fair use is either ---- but thanks for the copyright info lol

actually i do. while the following is from another forum, it applies to forums like this one:

Copyrights: The articles placed within this site are covered by the Fair Use Act and are being archived for educational purposes by individual activists and a non-profit organization. These articles are part of our free political speech.

and btw, the poll is indeed correct in case you were wondering.

because it is. and how do you know it isn't? and like i said, is not the first one. this poll confirms dozens of others from many other polling companies that did their polling in blue and red states. that includeed likely voters and reg voters. polls that had only republicans.

the poll that has it most against amnesty is a zogby poll (done for a xeno org) that asked if people were in favor of amnesty. about 44% of the people said yes. and like 46 said no. but throw in margin of error and strong enforcement, you will get close enough to 50%. and there was a fox news poll two years ago that had about 51% saying that they were in favor of temp status (for some this is also amnesty.) outside of these two poll, trust me, dozens of poll illustrate what this last one has. even lou dobbs read one on tv and said nothing. and he had a poll done and it was to be the gospel truth. the questions of amnesty didn't come up because he knew it was going to be 50% or over. and after all, if people didn't really want amnesty, no matter how the question is, they will still be against it.

but every poll also has 70-90% approval for enforcement. and any reform bill must have tons of it. real enforcement. and that is what the people want. but the peopel are at least open ot the idea. americans rather have the House bill over the Senate bill. but that doesn't mean they won't support amnesty added to a strong sensenbrenner bill.

"Because it is?" That's the best you can do? Trust you? Why on earth should we? Please... How do I know it isn't true? I don't need to prove that - you're the one who posted this bogus information and can't back it up any more than "trust me."

Very interesting interpretation of the law indeed. Period.

What I want to know is, if illegals get citizenship, what am I, someone who has lived in this country legally for almost 8 years, paid taxes, paid large fees to USCIS over many years and contributed a huge amount to this country in other ways, going to get?

Super-Citizenship?

Will I be able to vote twice?

Or will I be ignored because these days the word "immigrant" means "illegal immigrant" whereas I am an "alien", and not a political issue and easy to ignore.

as of now, legal immigrants won't get status. know of a case where the person was here back in 1986 as an illegal and has been in the country since like 1979 or something. but because she became illegal in 1983/4, she didn't benefit. why? she was wasn't illegal since 1982. one had it be illegal for five years. two years ago she gained status.

i am in favor of adding all legal immigrants as long as they also fit the other requirements. the current reform bill says that those who came after april 4, 2004 don't get any status. those who came before do get some kind of status. so dr_iha should get some kind of sttaus since he also fits the main requirement.

not sure how many legal immigrants we have, but if we are going to deal with 12 million illegals, what is the harm of dealing witht he legal ones? and besides, they are already in the system. their process shoudl be faster and less chaotic. illegals will have to wiat six years to apply for green card. perhaps legals should wait three. i have nothing against them.

and spare me of groups like fair. look, if the legalizattion were to be just for legals, they would start a civil war. they really want almost all of the international students out. can't stand the hb1/2 people. so don't make friends with them.

the answer is then nothing. i would like to see otherwise. and i will fight in favor of it.

as for the copyright. email the webmaster to take the info down then. if you want, take me to court. you will go down, but feel free. i am not making money and all of us are learning. hey, you wouldn't know the truth had it it not been for the article. you are now a little more educated on the true facts of the wolrd.

dubious? i gave a link and and then i gave the copyright info. and even the washington post printed it:

Most Americans favor guest-worker program: poll

Reuters
Tuesday, November 21, 2006; 11:25 AM

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Most Americans believe illegal immigrants should be allowed to become guest workers and eventually U.S. citizens, but Congress should do more to close the border to stop more illegals entering the country, according to a new poll published on Tuesday.

The nationwide poll, conducted by Quinnipiac University, found that by a margin of 69 percent to 27 percent, American voters say illegal immigrants should be allowed into a guest worker program with the ability to work toward citizenship over a period of several years. Such a guest worker program had wide support among voters of all political stripes.

But 71 percent of voters said Congress must do more to deal with illegal immigrants entering the country.

"Two-thirds of Americans favor a guest-worker program with a path to citizenship," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "Maybe a lot of Americans think back to the stories of their own immigrant families."

"But Americans also want to close the borders to keep out illegal immigrants in the future," Carroll added. "There are big margins for a tougher border policy among all parties and among men and women."

Sixty-five percent of American voters support -- and 32 percent oppose -- laws in their own community to fine businesses hiring illegal immigrants, according to the poll.

"Americans think more needs to be done to deal with illegal immigration, and they want it done in their own neighborhoods as well," Carroll said.

The poll was conducted from November 13 to 19 among 1,623 registered voters and had a margin of error of 2.4 percentage points.

again, the poll is the Truth. in fact, switch the numbers and i would tell you it would be an outlier. this poll just confirms dozens and dozens of polls. so again, fell free to take me to court. hire an attorney and spend thousands of dollars. go ahead.

you are a very pathetic and sad person indeed.
