American Grandfather (again)

I've searched these forums and found a few threads with similar but not the same situation, from what I understand after reading the other threads I don't have much of a chance however I'd like "my" answer.

The story is I'm thinking of studying and later working in the USA and I know my grandfather was an American born US Citizen and if I were eligible for US citizenship it would save some time and make life easier than H1B/TN/F1 visa etc.

My parents and I were all born in Canada. My father has never taken any steps in recieving his US citizenship by descent and my grandfater has passed away although we still have his birth certificate and military serivice papers. MY grandfather did live in the USA for over 10 years after the age of 18. No one since him has lived there.

So like many other people's question am I eligible for citizenship or can I be sponsered for a permanent residency or do I do it via visas?

Thank you.

Are you under 18? If yes, your father might be able to claim US citizenship and then file N-600K for you to get US citizenship. That's if your grandfather's military papers and/or other evidence of his residence in the US are from before your father's birth.

If you're over 18, after claiming US citizenship for himself your father could move to the US and sponsor you for a green card. But if you're over 21, that route would take years. Then after moving to the US with a green card, you could apply for citizenship 5 years later.

Your father's eligibility for citizenship through his father would depend on the laws in effect at the time of your father's birth, as well as specific facts such as whether his mother also had US citizenship when he was born, and whether his parents were married.
