Hello everyone,
I am an American by birth, born to naturalized parents of Pakistani origin. I recently got engaged to my would-be wife who is an Indian national and lives in India. We plan to get married in May in Mumbai, after which I plan to sponsor her for her Green Card.

I haven't been to the Indian sub-continent in the last 20 years, and I completely ignorant about the procedure that I need to follow to get my fiancee to the US.

I would greatly appreciate if you gurus could point me to any and all information that I need to be aware of. Specifically:

1. Do I need to schedule an interview with the US Consulate in Mumbai for my wife's Green Card? If so, where can I find the procedure to do that?

2. Am I required to be present during the interview?

3. How much time would it take after the marriage to secure an entry in to the US for my wife?

4. Is there any way I could get her to the US and then get married here itself?

5. Does the fact that my parents are of Pakistani origin be an issue or a problem in any way once we land in India?

6. In terms of preparing for our departure to India, what steps should we take so that our trip is as smooth as possible?

7. Anything else that I must know?

Once again, thank you all for helping me with my questions.

Best Regards,
Ahsan

1) You need to go over there and get some evidence you have good intent to marry her , you need lots of photos together, save all your e-mails,western union copies, all letters, take formal photos together start gathering lots of evidence. then come back and apply for I-129f Fiance Visa, or K-1 visa. that gets sent to embassy in Mumbai, this took me about almost one year, there is more forms you need from a legal advisor , they fill out form G-28, you need some counsel, doesnt have to be lawyer but would be good, this is basic stuff in beginning, there is the avidavit of support also
2) i would advise you go to interview i went to my wifes and i have to say if i had not she would never have gone through, they had questions for me at US embassy, they attourney filled out papers in english and they threw them back at us and wanted them in Spanish, the interview took all day, we were in Bogota Colombia.

3) she will get the visa, she flies here to us you need to marry her within 90 days and then send the I-485 and I-765 and wait for AOS then green card comes to her here in US

Do you know your wife-to-be? I think it's now a requirement that you need to have seen each other a certain amount of times before getting married.

the process is VISA-Marriage-apply for adjust of status to permenant resident-employement authorization-ss#-green card. or

I-129F Application to K-1VISA ,married within first 90 days of her arrival
then apply for I-485 and I-765 , you dont need I-130 because I-129F is
the original petition

The fact that your parents were pakistani does not matter, you are a US citizen and can get this Visa for her, fly to India be discreet and get a hotel room near the US embassy, you must go to interview, fly back with her to her city and then back here to USA good luck and bless
