Amended I485 for spouse

I got married after filing my I485 and my wife could not join me in the US. My Attorney filed an Amendment to I485 after I got married. They did not file for the Follow-To-Join process. They say once I get my approval (which is due anytime since my RD [12/10/01] got current) they will file for I824 and after that it typically takes 6-9 months before my wife gets her approval in the home country, India. How true is this? What is this procedure. I asked them if I could file for the Follow-To-Join process now and they advised that it would delay my 485 approval, and inturn delay my wife's arrival in the country. I am confused. Are they giving me proper guidance? Please help.

A little different route

Get the H1 from your comapny or a new company go to india get it stamped and get H4 for your wife and come here. File her 485 . You might have to spend the H1 fee if u know some one who file your H1 .

Its too late to get an H1, my 485 approval is pretty close. If in case I get my H1 after 485 approval, the H1 becomes effective and the approval gets invalidated. Atleast that's what my understanding is. Am I right ??
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have a question in this regard. Is I140 getting invalidated too?
