Hello, I have a question I hope someone can awnser. My family came from cambodia legally. I was born in thailand and came with my family shortly after. My mother and father were both naturalized while I was under the age of 18. So does that mean I am naturalized? I have permenent residency and a green card that is from whn I was a little girl, I am 27 now. Is it called derivitive naturalization? What does that mean? WHat do I have to do to find out?

Thanks

Your derived citizenship depends on when your parents got naturalized and whats you age on that date. Refer to the following link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_Citizenship_Act_of_2000

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/us...toid=1fb596981298d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD

you can try applying for your US passport if you have the following docs:
1) your parents' naturalization certificates
2) your parents' marriage certificate
3) your birth certificate
4) your green card

I was born in thailand and have no birth certificate, but I do have a green card. I was under 18 when they were naturalized.

Like I stated before, there are specific laws concerning child deriving citizenship through citizen parent. It gets complicated since the law in 2001 is not retroactive.

How did you get your GC without birth certificate? its strange ... you may want to try and get it now.

Look at it from uscis point of view: they need to be certain that you were born to your parents, the date your parent(s) got naturalized, and your date of birth so that they can conclusively determine your age at your parent's naturalization date ...

Your best bet is the file a application, I think it is the N-400 or N-600. Chances are very good that you are a citizen, but certain conditions need to be met. I'm 99% certain you met the standard since you said both parents naturalized before you turned 18. Even if you were not, what has stopped you from getting citizenship on your own?
