Hello Gurus, I live in US and I have a question regarding parents GC interview (Consular Processing). They don't speak English.
They don't speak English. Am I going to be allowed into the embassy to accompany them for their Interview?

Is the Interview always going to be in Mumbai or the local embassy to your state (Chennai or Hyderabad)

Thanks
Ch

my parents had gone for the interview 10 years back in Delhi and i remember waiting outside as i was not allowed to accompany. There was a staff member you gave them company and i am sure they have interpreters inside. I am sponsoring my parents GC again, and now they are older so i will request to accompany them, lets see how that goes.

I am preparing for an interview for my mother at Mumbai Embassy for IR-5 immigration visa. I am her sponsor for her in the USA. She cannot hear properly even with a hearing aid it is not very easy. I am therefore going to take her with me. Will they allow me to join her for the interview? Any experience from anyone will be really appreciated.

Wow… I responded to that question 2 years ago… so here is updated experience …while my mom is still waiting for her GC process, in dec 2022 I took her to Delhi consulate for a tourist visa interview. First, although we were told “come in any time”, when we arrived there were 100+ people in the line. They informed me applicant goes in alone and I cannot go in no matter what. I asked guards to get my mom a wheelchair and as a result she was allowed to go in out of line and not sure what changed, but they asked me to go in with her and push her wheelchair. Soon after they realized I am a US citizen which created more drama due to lack of awareness. Apparently there is standing order to send US citizens thru separate door.

All ended well as I was in with my mom pretty fast.

The Vida Officer was an American lady who was proud that she could speak in Hindi as she wanted to speak with my mom directly. However her Hindi was barely audible and understandable for my mom who was easily 5 feet away and behind a huge glass. VO declined the visa twice to her within 5 minutes (coz her I-130) was contradicting her tourist visa app. Considering we had nothing to lose I jumped in loud and clear to her and spoke on behalf of my mom. (I don’t recommend that but I did). She approved visa and we came out.

My point, no one will answer for an old parent as effectively as the petitioner. Try to go in. Ask for wheelchair.

Hi
@user2020
I am happy to hear that your mother got visa. I have started preparing my parents I -130 and realized that I need their marriage certificate. They got married in 1975 and they didn’t register their marriage. They are trying to do it now in local sub registrar but no one is helping there even if we are ready to pay the money for services. I got two marriage affidavits from close relatives. Can I proceed to apply I 130 with these affidavits?

I am not an expert and I don’t want to give wrong advice. There is INS site where they clearly state for which country what certificates are available and what to submit if that original is not available. I do not remember the site but you should search.
