alternatives to birth certificate

What are the alternatives if a birth certificate is not available? I\'ve heard that one can instead get a statement signed by a few witnesses, but I\'d appreciate specific information on exactly what the INS finds acceptable.

Alternates to actual Birth certificate

I) If Birth is not registered at all:

1. Get a Non-availability of Birth certificate from the Panchayat or Z.P.

2. Get Notarized-Affidavits from two persons ( Close relatives or Parents ), stating that they celebrate your birthday on
the date of birth date mentioned in the I-485 form.

3. Please make sure Affidavits have your parents names. Format of these Affidavits can be obtained from
www.immitracker.com web-site

II) If Birth is registered but names are in Native language and birth is registered within 30 days of the birth.

1. Get the Birth certificate in whatever language it is in. Get it translated and notarized by a Translator recognized by Indian Consulate. Speak with nearest Indian Consulate to get translator\'s address.

III) If Birth is not registered with in 30 days of the Birth.

1. Get the Birth certificate in whatever language it is in. Get it translated and notarized by a Translator recognized by Indian Consulate. Note that no translation is needed if it is in English.

2. Get the Affidavits as mentioned in above first case situation.
