Here's an article from the Denver Post (this link was posted by assur in the VSC forum): http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_4813326
Highlights:
About 440K people stuck in name check.
FBI now has an informal policy by which they expedite namechecks if a lawsuit is pending (and so does USCIS). This will, of course, encourage more lawsuits which themselves could get stuck in pending-lawsuit backlog!
It would be laughable if it weren't so serious.
But it looks like there are more people stuck in name check for citizenship rather than GC.
How many is anybody's guess.
