Hi everyone,
My wife and I recently send in the I-485 package with my wife being the citizen and me an F-1 student, we have some questions. Anyone with these answers please reply and will be greatly appreciated.

1) Its been more than 2 weeks, no receipt from the INS yet. I have the fedex proof of delivery.when can i expect it.

2) What would be the first document i receive from the INS.

3) When they receive my package before they send me the receipt are they going to check if all papers required are present

4) Is this the time they decide if I am eligible or not or they will just send me a receipt stating they have received my papers and put me in queue for processing later.

5) Is temporary EAD issued only after reviewing every single document

6) I have heard a lot of terms like RFE and others...Please explain terms relating to this process.

Thankyou inadvance to all for taking the time to read. Please reply.

You should get the receipt within a month. If you have sent a cheque, you can check when your cheques are cleared and then expect a receipt.

This will be like a grocery receipt (yellow and white).

You might get a Notice of Action (NOA) in some cases too as all INC (BCIS) Centres are different.

You will only be eligible for EAD if you have filled out I765 or Employment Authorization request form. Interim EAD's are available only after 90 days on the receipt notice on the INS.

You can visit www.uscis.gov website and search for how to sponsor for your spouse and get all details. Hope that helps.

As waitingforAOS11 says the timeline and receipts are all different depending on the service centers ..

I applied to the Seattle district center and got my receipt within a week and a half of applying .. it was a receipt like one at a grocery store(as waitingforAOS11 said).

this is the order that i recieved paperwork in ..

Receipt
Interim EAD Letter
Fingerprinting Letter
Interview Letter

Luckily for me no paperwork was missing so things went pretty fast and I got my passport stamped within almost 6 months of applying for the AOS ..

Hope this helps ..
