Alien Employment Certification

I received a copy of a letter from the DOL (to my lawyer) stating that the Employer's application for Alien Employment Certification filed on behalf of <my name> was received on Jan 02, 2003.

What is this Alien Employment Certification ? I have already cleared Labor, I-140, and am currently in the I-485 stage. Can someone please shed some light on this.
