Alien card renewal

I am a permanent resident with an Alien Card. Recently, on my last re-entry to the US, Costumes told me that I should renew my "Resident Alien" card because its too old. My question is as follows. My Passport Has my Name, Middle and Last Name. When I got my Permanent residence card, I only used My Name and my Middle Name; however, I did not use my (Family Name, Last Name or mother's name) because a relative told me I did not need it. I have been in and out of the country many times with no problem. Since Costumes is asking me to renew the card now because is getting too old, should I keep the card name as it is, or should include my (Family Name, Last Name or mother's name)? Since this is after 9/11, I am wondering whether including or not including my (Family Name, Last Name or mother's name) as is in the passport will cause a long delay or denial? When, I got my Alien Card the process was long and arduous and I don't want this detail to complicate the process now. The way I have my documents now are as follow; all my US documents use only My Name and Middle Name: Alien Card, Social Security and Drivers License. My passport Uses My Name, Middle Name and (Family Name, Last Name or mother's name). You expert opinion will be valuable.

Thanks

What is on your birth certificate? That is what the US Immigration authorities consider to be your official legal name, unless you have done something else to legally change your name such as marriage or a name change court process.

Apparently you have one of those green cards from decades ago that don't have an expiration date? You are not obligated to change a non-expiring green card just because it's old, even though Customs is urging you to change it. However, if it doesn't have your legal first and last name, you should change it so that it has your legal name ... or apply for citizenship using your legal name.
