Anyone know if the DO in Alexandria VA provide name change service, I requested name change on application and after much reading on threads it is evident that name change request delays the oath date. I should have researched on this before I applied. If Name Change delays the oath can I withdraw my name change request in Interview?

Hi wchachar,

You can withdraw name change request during your interview.

Please you bring your birth certificate at the interview.

W,

You meant Fairfax DO? I don't think Alexandria has its own DO as all the immigration business is handled on Prosperity Ave, in Fairfax, vA.

I believe the only time in which a name change delays the oath ceremoney is if for example you lived in the District of Columbia, because all DC N400 applicants who request a name change or NOT don't do oath ceremony in VA. All of them are usually scheduled for a large ceremony in court building downtown not far from the US Capitol, and it is done by a judge who can order a name change. Since you live in VA, and I don't think the DO is located in a courthouse, it is possible you might be required to request a name change through the courts in the Courthouse on the Orange Line and just bring a new name as ordered by the court to the oath ceremoney and request that your certificate be issued in your new changed name. I am not extremely knowledgeable about this particular issue of name change business

I would ask Boysmith, Triple C to comment on this issue as I am fairly confident that they are more familiar with this aspect of immigration more than I do. I need to change my name as well when I file for N400, but I am planning to do a name change via the court around Spring 2010 or whatever way is easier and less time consuming.
