Airport experience yesterday

Yesterday re-entered using AP and EAD. Two things of note.

1. Got fingerprinted and had photograph taken under new guidelines. This did not take long at all and did not seem to delay the entry process at all.

2. Had AP documents stamped in INS office. I was going to ask for news on my case (if any) but decided against it. While I was in there though, a brother and sister were also having AP documents stamped. They handed over all copies of AP and the INS officer used one and trashed the others (on advice from other INS officer). This surprised me. I think the best thing would have been for the couple them to have only handed over one copy and to have kept the others for future trips. Has anyone else had this experience? I think I should have said something to them but did not want to appear to be interfering. Hopefully they have other copies.

No word yet on approval or second FP. Congrats to all those approved over the holidays and happy new year to everyone.

scotgirl,

Did had hand over the stamped AP back to you. I thought that is what they are supposed to do.

I plan to go for a walk-in AP where I think they give only 1 copy. If they take that away at the airport I wont be left with any.

Which airport did u come back at

Thanks

daj

...

Wonder how long this new FP (from the airport) will be valid :D

No need to do another FP for GC, I think

:D :D

gambler, no news on RFE just yet unfortunately. Online status still says "On November 25th we received your response...". No word on 2nd FP either. I imagine that this will be next. I was hoping for approval before that but I'm losing hope.

daj, I came back into Dallas/Fort Worth. Yes, they handed stamped AP back to me. I also still have other stamped AP from my previous AP entry. I guess I hold on to both copies.

I wonder if anyone has asked for status update while having AP stamped at airport? The INS officer was very nice but I did not feel like it would have been appropriate to ask him. I'm also not sure how much information they have on each case on their system.

Scotgirl,

You are telling us that you re-entered on AP and got fingerprinted and photographed under new "US VISIT" program right there at the 1st counter ? And then was sent ro secondary inspection for AP process... right ?

That's strange as the impression was, VISIT program was for visa holders, AP is not a visa. :(

thanks

If I remember correctly all non US citizens will have to go through this. Only exception is for people from 28 countries doesn't have to go through this process and most of those countries are from Europe. Therefore even if you have a GC, you will have to FP and photographed. Please correct me if I am wrong...

VIOLATION???

scotgirl,

As the previous post indicated, there are questions here:

1: AP holders are not subjected to the US-VISIT.
2: There are 27 countries exempt also from the program. And a lot of special visas also..

Is this a violation of your privacy and civil rights? It may not look significant now, but you do not want your records in these databases...

Yes. I also thought it was strange that I was fingerprinted and had photo taken given that I am from the UK and was not entering on a visa. I am maybe misunderstanding the rules.

Also interesting - the immigration guy took an I-94 from me (also for people with visas - my visa has expired). Last time I entered on AP the immigration guy said I-94 was not necessary but this time this guy said it was. I think the first guy was correct but of course, I wouldn't argue. I had the I-94 completed just in case because they turn you away in the line if you do not have all forms completed correctly. I thought it better to complete just in case.

scotgirl,

1: The US Customs and Border officer, (CBP) is another recent DHS "achievement". This is the single face at the border, is not the old immigration guy anymore, since Customs and Immigration at the entry were merged. Apparently this guy came from the Customs or the Enforcement and had not mastered adequate immigration knowledge yet!
2: Since you are UK passport holder, entering with no visa you should have not been subjected to the US-VISIT in the first place.
3: Since you had AP, you are not subjected to the US-VISIT.

Total number of violations: 3

You can complain if you wish at the DHS, US-VISIT program and also the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA), Government Affairs. US-VISIT has a lot of holes anyway. It is just a waste of a lot of money. You may write and ask for removal of your records from the US-VISIT database.

Thanks for the information. I'm not going to complain about it as I don't see it as that big a deal really.

Thanks!
