Airlines that do not allow boarding on a temporary I-551

Hello ppl,

I have been in the US for two weeks in the month of April. I came back to my country on may 5th, and i have confirmed plans (paid tickets, etc) to go back to the US to settle there permanently on July 16th.

I have been reading on other places in cyberspace that certain airlines do not allow boarding on temporary i-551 documents (in this case the MRIV with admission stamp, aka endorsement) and these ones demand a letter called "Transportation Letter", a thing impossible to obtain, theoretically, since the GC is not lost, it's just stamped in the passport.

I am wondering if Delta will allow me boarding.

I am travelling from Lima to NYC via Atlanta.

BTW, if you have any experience in this situation with other airlines, maybe this is the thread to do so, so we may know in advance.

If there are any airlines that deny boarding with a temporary I-551 for direct flights to the US, that must be a case of a confused employee, not airline policy. Such a situation can be resolved by the supervisor.

However, what may be a legitimate boarding refusal is when you're transiting through another country. Many countries that normally require transit visas will exempt green card holders from having to obtain such a visa. But I believe some of those countries will not grant that exemption for a temporary I-551, so the airlines in turn would refuse to board you if you're going to stop in such a country, unless you obtain a transit visa.

Call up the airline and describe your flights and the transit points and see what they say. Also look up the transit visa policies of the transit countries (if applicable) and how they treat the temp I-551 vs. plastic green card.

Well, that's good to know.

Not applicable in this case. This is a direct Peru - USA flight, no stopovers.
Thanxs
