After Oath Ceremony

Friends,

How can one go about:

- Getting the US Passport after Oath Ceremony is Completed.

- What needs to be done with old passport?

- I have to apply for my wife's Green Card who is on H-1B visa. What is the process to do that?

- I am a Citizen of India, how do I get OCI or dual citizenship and how fast does that come?

Any guidence from folks on this board will be appreciated.

Thanks
Love

Go to the post office and fillout the passport application and follow the instruction on the PP application form. Or download a fillable PP application from http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/ds11/ds11_842.html

You need to get it cancelled. Now there are two ways of doing this. You can send the passport as soon as you get your US passport OR you can do that when you collect your OCI if you are planning to apply for OCI in the near future.

You need to file a petition for alient relative. I think the form is I-130 but not sure. You will find more information on other forums.

You need start by registering online with Ministry of Home Affairs online at : http://www.mha.nic.in//oci/oci-main.htm. You will find more information about OCI at the website. Regarding processing time for OCI, best case scenario about 1-2 months worst case is anybody's guess!

Hope this helps. Good luck.

If you want, get your passport pictures done before the oath ceremony. Also go to the http://travel.state.gov and get/fill in the form. Have everything ready (except your signature). Find a postoffice near you that accepts passports (http://www.usps.com).

That way you can stop off at the Post Office on the way back from the oath. I found it very satisfying to do everying on the same day.
