I believe that depends on your country of citizenship. The GC only entitles you to 'easy' return to the US. Its you passport that you use for entering any country.
As far as I know the GC is only valid for travel to canada. Check online and you can get the all information for the country you intend visiting.
I agree with sickofit. Either or not requires a visa to enter european countries is based on your passport/citizenship. GC is valid for re-entry to US only. I have a friend who has a GC and signed up for a cruise in Mediterean and will have to get entry visa to Italy. Her husband already gets the US citizenship thus he is exempted from getting the visa for EU countries.
Again, I stress that it depends on your country of citizenship. Remember that the document you use to enter most if not all countries is your passport not your greencard.
