After a denied assylum can I apply for an internation student visa?

My family and I applied for assylum which got denied. we appealed. in the process of getting an appeal
hearing my family and I decided to go back to our country. I'm still in my country however I got accepted
in a University in USA. Can I now apply for an international student visa? My family and I never received a
deportation notice. Please advise. Thanks,
