After 230, what are the next steps?

I looked everywhere but I cannot find this information. I filed for my parents late 2004, but we have been taking our time going through the process. Yesterday I sent off the 1-230 Part I on behalf of my parents to the NVC. The affidavit of support was already sent before hand. What is the process now? The next step? Can anyone tell me? How long does it take from now?

Thanks,

D.

First of all how are you proceeding, I assume that you are using consular processing but I believe that the process is somewhat similar for AOS. After the documents are received by the NVC, they will be reviewed and then sent out for consular or AOS processing. In my case the documents for my parents are sent to the Montreal consulate and an appointment is scheduled. Six to eight weeks or so before the interview a form and instructions for obtaining a medical are sent out and that's pretty much it. You get the interview and hopefully you pass. AOS if I recall you get the same info but you go to a doctor in the US and get interviewed in the US. Doctors designated to do the examination in the US are called civil surgeons and those outside the US who have been designated to do the medical are called panel physicians. The info is sent out to you by the local consulate/embassy handling the matter. I am more familiar with consular processing than AOS so if I am mistaken on a few points, maybe some of the more seasoned veterans of this forum can provide more info on AOS. I don't know what the current timeframe for AOS is but I have heard for Montreal interviews are being scheduled for October.
