Hello

First of all, thank you for being there and helping us with our questions and guiding us. We all really appreciate your help.*

My wife is on my dependent visa (H4) and applied for her MBA. Can she study her MBA on H4 visa for 1st year and then convert to F1 visa for 2nd year? Do 1st year that she already completed count towards her program OR does she have to start from the scratch?

The reason i am asking this is because - by doing 1st year on H4 visa, for 18 credits, we save a lot by paying in-state tuition fees. And next year she converts to F1 visa and get all benefits like F1 students, like CPT, OPT, on-campus jobs etc.

Thanks in advance.

save at least 50 – 60 % of tuition fee

The biggest advantage while studying in H4 is Tuition fee savings. Your total tuition is less than one half. You will save at least 50 – 60 % of tuition or more depending on the tuition fee structure.

Once your wife graduate, you will be eligible for 20,000 additional H1B visas category for Masters in US. If you complete at the right time and find a H1B sponsor at right time, you may apply for H1B visa and work in US on H1B visa utilizing the extra quota for H1B visa.

You can change the status to F-1 visa, but you need to do it before 6 month.
