This may be a partial response to your query.

You can change from the AOS to the CP process by filing the
form I-824. These days the approval of I-824 is taking anything
upto 1 year. And the CP process after that will take another
6 to 7 months. So weigh these factors before you decide.

Your next question is whether you or your spouse can continue
to use the EAD (a benefit you got out of the AOS process) even
after changing lanes to CP? I do not have a definite answer for
this. Research the forum and you should be able to find some
information.

I know that the AOS process will continue till the Form I-824 is
approved. I do not know about the usage of EAD during this time.
