A bulletin sent out by my wife's immigration attorney. It's only a matter of time for all foreigners to register.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Clients, This message is being sent to you as a courtesy. It is not meant to constitute legal advice and may/may not apply to you. In an effort to increase border security as a result of the terrorist attacks on the United States, the INS has instituted a Special Registration program. Currently, this program covers a total of 25 countries. It has been expanded numerous times over the past few months and there are suggestions that it may eventually be expanded to cover all foreign nationals present on non-immigrant visas. You are urged to remain aware of Special Registration procedures as well as requirements to update your address with INS each time you move. Specific information can be found at www.ins.usdoj.gov under the Special Registration section. Please be sure to check this information on at least a monthly basis.:( :(

Probably Advice Needed>>>>>>>>>

I do not know what to say. But I am in a precarious situation. My 485 has been pending for more than a year RD Nov 2001. I replied to RFE and was recieved on nov 20, 2002. My EAD expires on 26Feb and AP on 14Feb. But I do not have any valid visa. With what your lawyer has written, we all could be in for hardships. Does anyone think that I can be in a problem after Feb 26 even though my status is pending e.g. if I go to teh INS office to get my Interum EAD??? I am little bit worried. ANy advice will be appreciated...

status

Tajindia, What i learnt from this board is AOS[adjustment of status] is a valid satus only. And you can also get your iEAD. Why worry man? Take it easy and chill out.

This is kind of hypothetical question at this point but it might turn in to reality some time soon. Yesterday I was going through Argus newspaper in there also this question was raised.
There were many people from different countries who were deported though they were all had pending AOS. So what is the difference between those and us who does not have H1 or valid EAD I mean original EAD has been expired and waiting for next EAD to come. Or think about those H4 holders who never had EAD but their H1 holder spouses started working on EADs.
Like I have GC but my spouse does not have valid H4 since I don't have H1 and we did not filed second EAD thinking that when she is not going to work (or I should say she can not get job in this market condition) what is the use of EAD.
But on the other hand if this is true then what is use of AP. AP is used for the people who are under AOS. And INS is deporting guys who are under AOS (based on news).

You r true Vipsha!!!!!!!

I am not duly worried but anything is expected in this country now... They are on a major cleaning drive. Looking the way they are adding teh countries, India could be one of them for "SPECIAL REGISTRATION" sometime later this year. The stories I have heard have been fairly bad as some people who were not legal for even three days were deported. Anyway nothing I can do but sometimes worry>>>> I hope everyone is fine may be from any country..

any one with 485 pending will not be send for deportation. INS offices have received memos from HQ to follow now. It only happned when very 1st registration took place that too for people who files under 245 procedure.

ghost-rider,

I read that bit of news, where INS HQ issued a circular saying there will be no more deportations. But I wonder if it is part of the same story when they mentioned that the "freeze had been lifted?" :D

Also, in an earlier post, some one mentioned that on a 485 being rejected, the INS official said, what is AC21, never heard of it! :)

I think it is difficult to put a finger and say INS will do this, since they are past masters in doing the opposite, but we can take some relief in the fact that atleast the wait will be over and we can get on with our lived! :)
