Affidavit of Support

I have been asked to file an Affidavit of Support for a friend seeking a student visa. In theory this person will be self sufficient and my affidavit will be filed away and forgotten. However, I am concerned that I might find myself with a real problem should this student ever fall on hard times. Does anyone have any comments or experiences to share with an Affidavit of Support? I would really like to help, but I want to find out exactly what I might be getting myself into.

Thanks,

Bob

Hi,

What does "self-sufficient in theory" mean? Does your friend have their own income? If that\'s the case they wouldn\'t need an Affidavit of Support, at least not for a student visa. If they don\'t and they plan on finding a lob upon their coming to the U.S. , then it\'s up to you to decide if you trust your friend enough. As far as I know, all that\'s needed for a student visa is proof that the applicant has sufficient finances for the first school year. For a relatively cheap university like mine, that\'s around $20,000. But the only document I was ever asked was a plain and simple bank statement...

Hope it helps. Good luck to your friend :)

Dear All,

I need someone to sign affidavit support letter for me in order to apply for PhD program for Fall 2008.

I am aspirant in Moscow, Russia and I am sure I can meet all academic and language requirements to study in the USA (I have already passed TOEFL and GRE and won couple of academic grants in Europe), but my application would not even be considered without a letter of Affidavit support!!!

Would you please advise any person/agency who can provide me a letter of Affidavit Support for a fee? Any experience here????

Thanks!!!!!!
