Hi all,
I am a DV-2009 winner. My sister and her husband live in US and they have E2 visa (business visa) but they can't be our sponsor since they are not green card holders or permanent residents.

Now my questions:

1- Is having a sponsor really necessary? I read in this forum that we (my husband and I) can be our own sponsor..is this still valid for DV-2009?
2- If we can be our own sponsor by demonstrating some amount of money does this money need to be in an US bank account or it can be in the country we live?
3- I read the page "2008 Poverty guidelines" here http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1327.html
But i don't understand for 2 persons how much we need to demonstrate? 14,000$ or 17,500$?

Thanks in advance

There is no rule how much money you need. An unwritten rule is about $10000 for the primary applicant and $5000 for each additional person.

That can be money into your savings account (you dont need an US Account), stocks, a life insurance etc.

Tazmania,Thanks for your answer. So do you think that it is ok if i don't have any sponsor?
by the way, from your signature and the dates i am a bit confused. Did you get your interview 8 months after you received your first NL?
I've got my first NL in April 2008 and sent the forms to KCC in May. I thought i will receive the second letter somewhere in summer. So I've got already my medical examination and police certificate and so on. I hope i didn't hurry up since the medical examination should be recent by the interview time.

At best you will have an interview at the beginning of October. It really depends on your case number. You have also not stated where you are from, what’s your country of eligibility. I did not have a sponsor, and it did not matter in my case. I am a native English speaking engineering graduate too so that may have helped my case for finding a job quickly in the US. Although I told my employer last weeks that I was leaving at the end of August and they are putting together some options for working in the US office of my company. :-)

I cannot answer the first question, as I dont know anything about your financial situation. But if you are in the range from my last post you should be fine.
Our interview was 10 month after we got the NL.
We dont know the region you are from, nor your case number, so hard expect when you CN will be current.
