Affidavit of Support

Hi

Was wondering whether one could get affidavits of support from more than one person ? Also whether your sponsor must have money in the bank if they have a good paying job and real estate and willing to provide you with room and board ???

Hi SuperNova:

Yes you can have joint sponsors (ours is from both husband and wife).
They must have money in the bank because they have to provide a letter from their respective banks showing their balance, when the a/c was opened etc.

If you check the instruction sheet to the I-134 you will see all the requirements.

By the way, have you received your second package as yet (your husband is in the US right?). We have not yet received ours. We emailed KCC but they just replied that delivery time is 7 to 10 business days in the US and that outside the US delivery times vary. This was not very helpful. We are going to check the embassy today to see if they will give us the info on authorized doctors.

Thanks for the response. Yes my husband is in the US and we have not received the 2nd package yet.

I suggested to him that he email KCC but if that is their response then I guess it makes no sense.

I am familiar with the instructions for the I-134 however I was just wondering whether each applicants situation would be considered on a case by case basis. I realise that they are asking for a bank statement of the sponsors accounts but they do say that ...................'evidence should consist of copies of any or all of the following documentation below that are applicable to your situation' and that list includes bank statements, statement from employer, tax returns if self-employed and bonds etc.

Our sponsor makes a good salary but unfortunately does not at present have much in her bank account as she just purchased a house.

That was why I asked becasue if it an absolute requirement to have money in the bank then we will have to get a co-sponsor.

thanks anyway

Okay, I understand. Yes, I believe it is necessary for the sponsor to have money in the bank. They have to be able to demonstrate that they will be able to support your family when you get to the US (even though you may not actually be dependant upon them). They just want to make sure you do not become a public charge.

Nope it is not necessary to have money in the bank as long as the sponsor's income is sufficient to maintain himself, his dependents and the immigrant family being sponsored at above the poverty level.

Really??? I always assumed it was necessary to have money in the bank. So why do they ask for a letter from the bank then, since the employment letter should suffice to prove your earnings?

This is from the I-134 instructions:

As the sponsor, you must show you have sufficient income and/or financial resources to assure that the alien you are sponsoring will not become a public charge while in the United States.Evidence should consist of copies of any or all of the following documentation listed below that are applicable to your situation.
Failure to provide evidence of sufficient income and/or financial resources may result in the denial of the alien's application for a visa or his or her removal from the United States.

Note words such as any or all and and/or.

When sponsor should appear for affidavit

1. Is it ok if my sponsor appear for affidavit just after my number is being current.
2. I write diffrent address where I want to stay rather then sponsor's address (they live in diffrent states). Now my sponsor agreed to give me job offer letter. In this case shell I change the adress.

Best regards and thanks in advance
