Hi everyone,
I have a quick initial question about the affidavit of support before I begin asking more specific questions.
I am a Canadian Citizen here on TN since 2005. Current TN expires July 2009. Back in October 2008 I got married to my USC wife. Right now we are going through filling out the forms, gathering evidence & all required documents etc. for my GC. All the GC forms are self explanatory and straightforward with the exception of the Affidavit of Support which I seem to be drawing question marks.
I'm just not 100% sure if we need a co-sponsor or not is basically my initial question. For the years we have been together (since 2004) leading to early2008 my wife had only worked part time while finishing school and i'm almost 100% certain she would not meet the 125% poverty guidelines (since in that time she was living at home with her parents/brothers in a household of 5 and only working part time).
In June 2008, after completing nursing school, she accepted a full time job as a Nurse. Since we got married in October 2008 we now live together (a household of 2) and she more than makes enough as per the poverty guidelines. In addition, I had been working here since 2005 on TN and I also make more than enough as per the guidelines (potential to combine our incomes?).
My confusion is that I have heard that the sponsor would need 3 years of making 125% of the poverty guidelines, I have also heard that I could use MY income for the past few years. I just don't know how to proceed, whether or not to use her income from 2008, or get a joint sponsor.
