In Chennai consulate, do I need to submit an addidavit of support for my wife. She is on H4. If so, what kind of documentation do I need for this.

It says the document needs to be signed in front of of Officer Administering Oaths.

Is it the 'Notary public' ? or Is it some other officer ?. I am a bit confused as the form asks for the 'Title' of the officer.

Please comment. Thanks

Answer: By an immigration officer or before a notary public or other official authorized to administer oaths for general purposes. If the sponsor is outside the United States, the affidavit must be sworn to or affirmed before a U.S. consular or immigration officer.

Answer: That is the notary public in usa. Please note this cannot be notarized outside USA.

Documents can also be notarized in the US embassy/consulate by a consulate officer.

Thanks.

yes thats true. I take back my words from above!...rectified my statement above!

Here is the legal way it is read as to where and how to execute:
"If the sponsor is in the United States, the affidavit may be sworn to or affirmed before an immigration officer (see any BCIS District or sub-office) or before a notary public or other official authorized to administer oaths for general purposes. If the sponsor is outside the United States, the affidavit must be sworn to or affirmed before a U.S. consular or immigration officer."

So the answer is yes it can be notarized @ a US consulate/ embassy only by an US immigration/ consular officer.

Although this is true i would recommend doing it in usa before you leave rather than wait till the last moment!
