Advisory opinion

Hi all,

I came to the US in 1992 on J1 and now I'm sure if I was subject to the 2 years of HRR. I would like to know if it's possible to get a letter from DOS that verifies this ("advisory opinion" letter). Can you do this on your own or need a lawyer? What is the procedure and how long would it take? Also, In case a waiver is needed, normally how long it takes to get it based on No Objection statement from sponsor or country government.

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Jarv

Several URLs....

I guess a little search on this forum would answer all your questions but since nobody replied you so far, here are several links to answer your questions:

Advisory Opinion (by the way, no need of lawyer) :

Good source for information on J-visa related issues from the US Department of State:

As for your question regarding how much time it takes to get no-objection based waiver, I think the overall time consumed varies greatly from 2 to 12 months depending upon procedures required by the respective embassies of different countries.

Best wishes,
