Am new to this forum. Now I renewed my NP
with the intention of visiting my girlfriend in canada
during the early days after my asylum approval. I realized
later on that I was not supposed to have done this.
Should I go ahead and file the I485 or stay in my current
status. Am from st. Louis missouri and I dont know much about
how serious they will treat this issue either in the local office
or Nebraska serv center.
Anybody in my situation to share?/??

I was kinda in a similar situation but not entirely similar. I renewed my NP after getting asylum and before applying for GC. I had not known anything about "better not renew it" policy either. I just wanted the NP to stay valid in order to be able to use it once I would get GC. Only after I visited this forum (which was in February) did I find out about the warning about not renewal of the NP. I talked to my lawyer afterwards saying that I renewed my NP during that time and he said it was fine as long as I did not use it before getting my GC ,and indeed I only had used RTD during that time so I was fine and did not worry about it further, so when they asked for proofs of my travels I showed copies of my RTD since it was what I had used when I travelled then.....

In your case though which is different than mine, it seems you did not apply for an RTD and you used your renewed passport for travel and now fear if it will affect your GC application; well, they ask for the proofs of your travels when you apply for I-485. So if you did not have an RTD but used your passport, you will have to show copies of it; and as far as the outcome....well, I can not say anything for sure but I doubt they would deny you for it . But it seems there is not much you can do at this time; what is done is done. If I were you I would still apply for GC , but it is absolutely up to you. Of course you can also wait for 5 more years to be on the safe side (since they ask you to show proofs of your travels in the past 5 years) but 5 years is a long time. I suggest you also ask an immigration lawyer about this.
