Advice with rescheduling asylum interview

Dear forum members,
I have filed my asylum application with the chicago asylum office and when they sent me the interview appoinment notice, it was lost (somehow from the mailbox and I found it after 10 days of the intended interview date... drenched in rain in the yard). Immediately I visited the chicago asylum office and was asked to submit a written explanation for my failure to appear and I did. It has been a month now and I didn't hear any response from them. I called them and they told me that I should wait for a response through mail. The question I want to ask you are: if this case happens and what should I do?

My interview date is next week at chicago asylum office and I would like go there and submit a written explanation for my failure to appear as you did. Can you please let me know if they accepted your request to reschedule? Is there any negative effect on rescheduling request? I would much appreciate you could kindly share your experience.
