Advice with Lawyer

I am frustrated with my lawyer and I don't know if I am being unreasonable and what my options are:

My RFE was recieved by their office Oct 9th - they sent it to me on the 15th. I put a call into their office on the 19th after I found about the letter from Immigration on the same day. They faxed it to me directly. Subsequently, the actual mail that they sent on the 15th didn't arrive in my mail box until the 25th.

The cut off date for this information to be recieved by INS is Sunday Nov 4th (basically Friday 2nd).

I scrambled to get this information together and sent it by Fed Ex on last Thursday & it was recieved early the following morning.

Now my lawyer won't take my calls and all I want is a reassurance of when this information will be sent. Her assistant keeps telling me that she will call me if she needs anything else. If she needs anything else then I don't have much time to supply it.

What if my lawyer does not submit this information in time? How do I avoid this? Is it too late to switch lawyers?

All I want is a call that says 'we recieved your information, we know that xx is the last day that we can send and we will contact you no later than xx if more information is needed' basically a reassurance that they care!

I agree with you, crappy lawyers can make an already tough situation worse. However, you seem to have come this long, and already applied for I-485, so if they respond to this RFE on time, then I would say stick with your lawyer.

I would have sent it myself but the lawyer recieved the letter & sent it on to me without a forwarding address of Immigration - they also scared us about possible risk of my husbands revocation of his Green Card in regards to his employment letter.

Their service has been really disappointing.

Hi patienceavirtue,

Is that lawyer somewhere in CA and moved from NY last year because you situation resembles like mine with my lawyer and she also behaves like the same what you said. So I was just wondering.

They dont understand our frustration and never respond to the calls or emails as if they are the only ones are busy in the planet. Which makes us irritated.

They are screwing up lot of people life I can say without responding or dealing in a proper way.

They are a firm that has always been based in NY - My documents need to be at INS by Friday and all I want from them is a confirmation of when they will be sent. Apparently I can't even get that - which doesn't make me feel very confident.

Our lawyer is no quicker in responding. Last time I had a question I called her 16 times in 8 hours - and then she sent me a nasty email that our matter was not urgent (according to the receptionist the only urgent matter was if you are getting deported. Then I stopped being polite).

If this can be a consolation most of the lawyers don't really care. You are a case, not really a person. Just keep pushing and asking ...

That's why I personally prefer smaller law offices, when I started this whole process I had the option to choose from a few offices, I personally contacted them to see whether they were responsive or not, and some just brushed me and my sponsoring company off while others were nice and responsive. I ended up going for one of the responsive ones, and I've been very happy with the results.

There were times last year when I would send an email to my lawyer asking about what would happen if an immigration law would pass (a hypotethical question at best at the time), and she would still get back to me with some kind of a response within a day. That's what I call good customer service.
