advice required on recommendation letters

I am working on my RFE for EB1-OR. The details of my case are available in the following thread....

My questions are related to the recommendation letters. I am trying to secure several letters for my RFE. However, some refrees have asked me to provide the draft. In most cases they make minimal changes from what I write.

Firstly, how important is the content of letter? The typical format I use is that the letter has some superlatives and discuss one or two details of my research, citations. How long should be the letter? My accomplishments are pretty modest so I am now running out of stuff to write in letters. Is it ok to have one or two letters form professors which are general and short? I am trying to get a good geographical distribution of letters. Will that help?

I have tried to focus on "original", "outstanding", "first time", "importance" aspects of my work in the letters. Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help

content of the letter is very important ...as reading that helps officer to build your opinion...better letters evades minimal chances of getting distracted. ...make cure the text and content of supplied refree's templates is different................length of letters can be anything............one of my guy gave me 4 page letters............writing his introduction first fro 3/4 of first page.....................thats helped to make recommenders expertise..........short letters are o.k ....but why general......tell them to make it as impact worthy as possible.......top 1-2 % of total scientist will be other good words.....

IMO your RFE clearly indicates that your research work is outstanding, however what you need to prove is that it is internationally recognized. I think if you get a few letters from independent experts it will strengthen your case. I was advised by my lawyer to get letters from experts who know my work but not me personally. This would exclude people with whom you have collaborated in past or doing so in present, colleagues and coworkers, or those that are affiliated to your past or present school or workplace. To find such people, I would suggest contacting people who your Ph.D. advisor has collaborated in the past. Such people often provide good letters. Also, try to contact people who have cited your work. One of two letetrs from such people will really strengthen your case if they mention that they know you through your outstanding work.

Hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Thankyou for your suggestions. I am trying to get independent recommendation letters as you suggest cbfan. It is just that now I am running out of words to write in the drafts. However, I will avoid making generic statements as eb1doc states.
