Advice requested pls: Online case status with respect to interview

I have filed my N-400 (28th July 06, Texas) and have been fingerprinted (5th September 06, San Antonio). Hopefully, my case should be reasonably straight-forward (naiive ????). Now waiting for my interview letter.

I did register online on the USCIS “Case Status” site tho’ I realize that many correspondents on this forum would suggest it’s a waste of time. However, I have also read that when your name DISAPPEARS from the USCIS “Case Status” site, it implies that a certain stage in the process has been reached.

My question is this: if true and the name does disappear, what does this mean? Does it mean that the file has gone from USCIS to FBI? Does it mean that the ubiquitous name-check is underway? Does it mean nothing at all?

Second question is that is there any relationship between the name/file disappearing and the timing of the interview?

Hope this confusing question makes sense; thanks for any advice received.

hi RWSH

I am new to this forum. However, I have read here that when your 'status' disappears on USCIS website, your file is transferred from your service center to your local DO and you should receive interview letter soon.

In my case....my status for N400 disappeared on USCIS website on Oct 6 and I received interview letter on Oct 10. I hope it helps...

When your case disappears online it's almost certain that you will receive an interview letter within the next 10 days. It's been my experience and that of all the cases I've read in this forum and others.

Cheers,

It's all part of the USCIS's "Confuse the customer" strategy.

My understanding is that the disappearance of a case from the site means (as Citizen1980 says) that your case has been transferred to the District Office. Usually that means that an interview in imminent. However, it's up to the DO to decide what happens next (for example, it seems that some DOs do interviews while name checks are pending, and others don't).

So, it may mean you are about to get an interview letter, but, then again, it may not. If you don't get an interview, wait 4-6 weeks, take an InfoPass and ask what's going on.

wait 4-6 weeks from FP date or from PD date?

From when it disappears. By that point, you should have received an interview letter. If you haven't, then something is probably wrong (name check, phase of the moon, whatever).

I concur Flydog

It basically means that Service Center has transferred the file to your District Office (DO). From this point everything is handled by the DO.
